Ecumenical Dialog and the Sacraments

An ongoing dialog has existed between the Polish National Catholic Church and the Roman Catholic Church since 1984 and has resulted in a mutual recognition of sacraments.  Reports of early semiannual meetings are now summarized in Journeying Together in Christ: The Report of the Polish National Catholic-Roman Catholic Dialogue (1984-89) which surveys discussions of the sacraments, the Word of God, and the life to come. More recent discussions have focused on the canonical status of Roman Catholics who leave their church to join the PNCC; the development of a clerical spirituality; married priesthood in the PNCC; and concrete models of future unity.

The latest report on the PNCC - Roman Catholic Dialog was published in December 2003 and is titled: Journeying Together in Christ - The Journey Continues: The Report of the Polish National Catholic Roman Catholic Dialog (1989-2002)

The Episcopal Church and the Polish National Catholic Church in the United States resumed a formal dialogue June 25-26, 2003 at the Trinity Conference Center in West Cornwall, Connecticut. Formerly the two churches shared a full communion relationship inaugurated in 1940 with the Episcopal Church approving such a relationship with the Old Catholic Churches of the Union of Utrecht, which includes the PNCC. The PNCC accepted what was then called "intercommunion" in 1946. However, the 1978 Synod of the PNCC voted to "terminate intercommunion with the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America and the Anglican Church of Canada" over the ordination of women.

While we cannot cover all the specifics of the dialogs here, there are jointly issued texts concerning the dialog (noted above) that are available through the PNCC Bookstore

Many people wonder about receiving the sacraments in another church.  What is presented below is a guide.  Members of various churches should consult with their spiritual leaders and pastors regarding specifics.

The information presented below is for the information of members of other churches who may have need to, or wish to, receive certain sacraments in the PNCC.

For Members of Any Church

Eucharist: Any baptised Christian accepting the Eucharist as real presence of the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ under the forms of bread and wine and who is properly disposed and wishes to receive the Eucharist is welcome to receive communion in a PNCC Church.

Baptism: Anyone is welcome to be baptized in a PNC Church.
